ASQA (Australian Skills Quality Authority): What Are They All About?

Posted on August 1st, 2011 | TMLE General

ASQA is Australia’s national regulator for vocational education and training. ASQA aims to foster quality vocational education and training and provide the community with access to great training education.

ASQA accomplishes these goals through a number of ways. ASQA is responsible for:

1. Registering RTOs

By registering training organisations, clients and students will be assured that a particular training organisation is able to provide students the best vocational education and training. When training organisations are required to register you can be sure that nationally approved quality standards are being met.

2. Accredit Vocational Courses

ASQA is also the recognition authority in New South Wales. By accrediting vocational education and training courses, clients are assured that the courses they are taking are of the best quality and meets national standards. These standards are contained in the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF).

3. Provide Courses For Overseas Students

Since Australia attracts a large number of foreign students in the country, ASQA approves currently registered training organisations as CRISCOS. Before the RTOs are allowed to teach foreign students, the training organisations will undergo a staged audit process. This is to make sure that they comply with different guidelines and legislations.

ASQA demonstrates that students, employers and government agencies alike should have full confidence in vocational education and training. They ensure that training organisations are compliant with all requirements and guidelines, and in cases where training organisations are non-compliant, ASQA is able to impose the appropriate sanctions.

ASQA ensures that students and clients like you get the best quality vocational education and training that you can possibly get. Students and clients do not need to think twice about talking to and working with Registered Training Organisations. In the end, everybody is a winner.
